Create your parent & student keys. Be prepared for Parent Night by making sure that your Hero application is ready for rolling out the Parent & Student web portal and Hero app. The good news is that any parent or student who logged into your school's Hero account last year won't have to re-register. They can use the same login credentials to access their student information.
The first step is to check your Parent & Student Engagement settings. Follow these instructions: https://www.herok12.com/resources/Hero-QSG-PSE-Administrators.pdf
Next, you will need to provide new parents and students with a unique 6 digit authentication code. This code, along with the student name and student number is required to create a parent or student login profile. Here is a template for your mail merge. While we recommend using parent & student Hero keys to set up parents and students in Hero, you can also choose the Simple Authentication mode in your Key Management screen. If you choose this method, parents and students will connect their accounts using their ID number, name, and date of birth, instead of a key generated for them. Here is an template for you to introduce Hero to your parents using the Simple Authentication mode.
If you have any questions about any of these tips, live chat with a Hero support agent or contact your Customer Success Manager for guidance.
