Hero - Simple Strategies for Incorporating within an Elementary Classroom

• Make sure expectations are posted and students understand and contribute to what each behavior means
• Reinforce generously, especially at the beginning, for any new behaviors or areas of need
• “Chunk” things down: consider focusing on just one behavior for the day or week (or even activity)
• Teach, reteach and practice, and use Hero to recognize exceptional instances
• Celebrate acts of kindness or soft skills 
• Align target behaviors with mindset/effort
• Differentiate based on student need

• Track at naturally occurring transitions or moments already built into your daily routine

• Class jobs/privileges: these can be connected to Hero points
• “Top Hero” for that period of time or prior day is the line leader or gets to pick the game at recess
• reinforce students with Hero points for effectively completing assigned jobs or roles

• Class incentives, such as a treasure or prize box
• keep it simple to manage with Hero points and reports
• after so many positive tracks they earn a trip to the prize box

• Manipulatives or visuals are also effective
• strategic sticker chart or “connect the dots” sheet

• younger students especially like these
• can be done for individual or class
• once they reach a certain target or milestone you celebrate with a Hero point
• lanyards or bracelets (“Top Hero”)
• daily behavior sheet: communicate with parents and students directly via Hero
• compliment jar: as your classes reach a milestone, celebrate and reward all your students in Hero
