Chalkable: Adding Transformations to your SIS Fields

Transformations are a feature in SchoolMint that allows users to format data within SIS Fields to maintain consistency and integrity. To configure transformations, select a transformation from the dropdown list, select the fields to apply or remove, and click Apply Changes. To remove transformations, follow the same steps as applying them.

SIS Fields

SchoolMint now offers transformations to your SIS Fields, directly in the UI. 

Transformations

Transformations are a way for you to format the data within your SIS Fields to maintain data consistency and integrity. If your SIS requires data to be formatted in Upper Case, or phone numbers to be specified with a certain pattern, you can now apply those transformations to the specified fields. Please note that this feature is only available with SIS Fields (currently supported for Chalkable, future SISs pending).

How to Configure Transformations

After selecting the SIS Fields you wish to sync back to your SIS, click on the Configure Transformations button to navigate to the following page:

 

Step 1: Select a Transformation to Apply or Remove

To apply a transformation, simply select a transformation from the available dropdown list. SchoolMint currently supports the following transformations:

• Proper Case
• Upper Case
• Phone Number Formats
• Trim (removes leading/trailing white spaces)
• Squish (removes extra white spaces)
• Yes/No Formats

Step 2: Select Fields to Apply or Deselect Fields to Remove

After you've made your transformation selection in Step 1, you will be prompted to choose the fields you wish to apply the transformation. Please note that the table will automatically filter out any SIS Fields that cannot have the selected transformation applied to them. 

Select the fields you wish to apply the transformation and click Apply Changes. You will be prompted to confirm your selection before the transformations are applied. 

Your changes are saved!

Remove Transformations

To Remove transformations, follow these steps:

Step 1: Select a Transformation to Apply or Remove

The same method you used to apply a transformation can be used to remove a transformation. Simply select the transformation you wish to remove from the available dropdown list. 

Step 2: Select Fields to Apply or Deselect Fields to Remove

After you've selected your transformation in Step 1, the fields listed in Step 2 will be filtered automatically to only show applicable fields. If a transformation was previously applied to the field(s), the field(s) will appear at the top of the list. 

To remove the transformation, simply uncheck the blue checkbox from the SIS Fields, and click Apply Change on the bottom-right.
